The tedious saying that this book is a princess-sy fairytale is incorrect in different ways. The author have narrated the story in a comfortable pace with ravishing character sketches. America is portrayed as a gallant young woman who does not think twice before standing against injustice or voicing her opinions even if it means getting on the bad side of the king. She manages to establish a deep connection with Prince Maxon but remains uncertain as she is divided between Aspen, her first boyfriend and Maxon. The character is portrayed realistically and would assure a remarkable read.

5. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder

A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder is another thriller on this list by Holly Jackson. The New York Time bestseller takes a more refreshing approach towards crime thrillers. Pippa Fitz-Amobi, the main character is a young teenage girl who reopens the murder case of Andie Bell and Sal Singh for her school project. While the police had closed the case and concluded that Sal had killed his girlfriend Andie Bell and later taken his own life, Pippa and Ravi(Sal’s brother) does not believe so. Later we can see Pippa being obssesed with the case which is now more than a project and contacts everyone connected to the case which leads to interesting revelations. The read also provides a satisfying ending and strong book hangovers.

6. One Of Us Is Lying

The young adult thriller by Karen M.Mcmanus is one of the most acclaimed books of this genre. This young adult murder mystery is set in a high school. The incident takes place when five students are put into detention for bringing phones to school even though they protested that they were being pranked. It is in the detention room that one of them, Simon, suffers a terrible peanut allergy reaction by accidentally consuming water from a glass which had peanut oil which ultimately leads to his death. Though this incident was referred as an ‘accident’, a tumblr post stating that Simon’s murder was planned sparks suspicion among the remaining four. From there each of them make shocking revelations about their personal secrets and how each of them had a motive to kill Simon who had created a gossip app run by the personal secrets of the students of Bayview High. The book is one of the most prominent thrillers world wide.

7. When Breath Becomes Air

As we shift our focus from thrillers to non-fiction autobiography ‘When breath Becomes Air’ by the late Paul Kalanithi would occupy the apex position. The Indian-American neurosurgeon pens down his journey as a neurosurgeon and work load along with it. He does not give up on his profession and continues to save lives even after being confirmed with lung cancer. The book reflects the true meaning of life and mortality and plants a new sense of hope within the readers. He cherishes his profession and beautifully depicts the doctor-patient relation. The book highlights rather unconventional topics which are often regarded as minute but leave lasting impacts like being kind to others and working as a team. 9. We Were Liars

The young adult novel by E. Lockhart cannot be put under the category of thrillers or murder mystery but rather haunting and confusing. The book has been written in a very baffling way and I found myself getting frustrated at times. But everything became obvious once I reached the end and boy! was that a twist. The story of Cadence Sinclair and the Sinclair family seems to be normal at first but trust the readers, it’s not. This book is secretive and therefore I am not providing much spoilers, so if you are intrigued by the Sinclair family what better way is there other than to read the book.

10. Totto Chan

We went through a lot of books with heavy storylines so why not end this list with sunshine and rainbows. If you are searching for a complicated storyline then this is not the book for you. The biggest asset of this book is it’s simplicity. The book surely can put a smile on your face as you accompany a young mischievous girl Totto Chan. Unlike the other recommendations on this list, the wholesome read by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi can be read by all age groups.
